Goodbye to a Reggae King

Was saddened to hear of the loss of Desmond Dekker on Friday to a heart attack. His songs have often been on my playlist.

Dekker is just the latest in a long line of dead reggae greats (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Augustus Pablo, Delroy Wilson etc) but he is by no means the least and he definitely deserves a star in the reggae hall of fame (if there is such a thing).

His single "The Israelites" topped the UK charts in 1969 and was the first reggae single to do so, paving the way for other artists like Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs and Peter Tosh.
